You can also get free advice about your pet's needs. At a pet shop you will get the chance to see a particular type of animal or bird in action and decide if it's really suitable.
You can also find pets for sale at a breeder's stud or farm. You might have decided that you want something more important than a little moggy or mutt. Maybe your pet needs to be registered so you can take it to shows and even win a prize for the best pet of its breed. But be prepared to pay top dollar for one of these pets.
But if the kids want a really rare pet, you'll probably have to look further afield. You may need to go online to find rare pets for sale. Just make sure it is legal to own one before you part with your money.
